Lot 665: Chinese Cork Art Diorama, Hangzhou Pagoda Landscape, Gilt Frame, 27 x 19 in

Look closely, because the entire scene is carved from cork and layered by hand into pavilions, pines, little boats and misty mountains, with a red cartouche naming the Hangzhou scenery. Three dimensional, impossibly fine work, mounted deep inside a gilt frame. Chinese cork art was a prized souvenir commission for decades and the delicate ones almost never survive intact. This one did, and it looks incredible with a light on it.

Size: 27 x 19 in. All measurements are approximate.
