Lot 636: Blue Boy Oil Painting After Gainsborough, Signed, Unframed Canvas, 20 x 24 in

$69.00

The most famous boy in a blue suit, hand painted in oil on canvas. Gainsborough's Blue Boy done with real confidence in the satin folds and that warm stormy background. Signed at the lower right. Comes unframed on its wood stretcher, so the buyer gets to make the framing call and can go as ornate or as modern as they like.

Big impact on a wall and a conversation starter the second it goes up.

Condition: Fair, sold as is. There is a slit tear through the canvas to the left of the hat, with cracked and lifted paint along it. Long vertical drip marks in the background on the right side. Small paint losses at the top and right edges, a small hole near the right edge, and a frayed tacking edge. The figure and face are intact. Unframed, with grime and stains on the back. A restoration project.

Size: 20 x 24 in. All measurements are approximate.
