Lot 1009: View of San Francisco, Formerly Yerba Buena, 1846-7 Historical Print, Framed, 15 x 12 in

San Francisco before the Gold Rush, when it was still a sleepy bay town called Yerba Buena. Tall ships ride at anchor, the hills roll back behind a handful of adobes and wood buildings, and not a cable car in sight. This is a print of the famous View of San Francisco, Formerly Yerba Buena, in 1846-7, Before the Discovery of Gold.

The back still carries the printed key that names the buildings and residents of the day, along with the reproduced certification signed by J.D. Stevenson, Gen. M.G. Vallejo and George Hyde. Framed in warm wood under glass.

A great piece for a California history buff, a Bay Area transplant, or any office that likes a story on the wall.

Condition: Good print, cracked glass. The glass has a long curved crack from the top center down to the lower left; the print underneath appears fine. Colors good with light toning. The oak frame has a small drilled hole at the top center and bottom center. The original title and key strip is mounted on the back with aging tape.

Size: 15 x 12 in. All measurements are approximate.
