Lot 1019: Pair of Kuna Mola Textile Panels, Hand Stitched Reverse Applique, Cathedrals and Birds, Matted and Framed, 38 x 18.5 in
Two hand stitched molas from the Kuna people of Panama, framed side by side: bold red, orange, and gold reverse applique cathedrals, domes, and arches on black, with parrots, birds, and tiny scattered stitch dots filling every inch.
Molas are cut and sewn by hand in layers, so every line you see is a needle and thread, not paint. Matted in warm gray with a rust accent and framed in a slim wood frame, with a The Great Frame Up label from Orange, CA on the back.
Condition: Very good. Both molas are bright and tight with stitching intact, no fading or holes seen. The mat has a small scuffed spot at lower left. Frame has light wear. Intact dust cover with The Great Frame Up Orange CA label. Wired.
Size: 38 x 18.5 in. All measurements are approximate.
