Lot 1030: Chinese Silk Embroidery, Golden Pheasant with Peonies and Plum Blossoms, Signed with Red Seal, 14 x 30 in
Somebody built this bird one stitch at a time, and the tail alone would test anyone's patience. A golden pheasant perches on a flowering branch in threads that run from teal to copper to deep rose, with a second smaller bird below, plum blossoms opening overhead and a heavy pink peony anchoring the bottom. The silk still has that shift in it where the light catches the stitches and the colors move.
Hand brushed calligraphy runs down the upper left, finished with a red artist's seal. Mounted on illustration board, unframed, ready for the frame of your choosing.
Condition: Good vintage. Embroidery bright and intact. Age toning and scattered light staining to the silk ground, most visible at the lower edge, as shown in the photos.
Size: 14 x 30 in. All measurements are approximate.
