How max bidding works

Simple, private, and you never pay more than the amount you chose.

  1. Enter the most you are willing to pay for a piece. That is your max.
  2. Other bidders never see your max. Only your current bid shows.
  3. When someone bids against you, the system raises your bid one step at a time, only as far as needed to keep you in the lead.
  4. If someone else's max is higher, you are outbid. Come back and raise your max any time before the lot closes.
  5. When bidding ends, the highest bidder wins at the current bid, plus a 9% buyer's premium.
Example: You set a $150 max. The current bid is $40. Someone bids $50, so your bid moves to the next step and you stay in the lead. If no one else bids, you win at that price, not $150.

Prefer to bid live? Skip the max and place your bids by hand on closing day.
